Lowest council tax increase in almost a decade Mid Sussex Councillors have agreed the lowest increase in council tax in nine years at their budget meeting. The Conservative budget, which keeps costs down and protects frontline services, was recently approved. Conservative leader Cllr Garry Wall said: "Mid Sussex District Council is already one of the lower spending Councils in the country so to reach this balanced budget required a relentless drive to find efficiencies within the organisation and to improve the way we deliver our services. We have been in a recession and are now entering an uncertain time when public spending will continue to be squeezed. Despite this we have delivered a balanced budget without resorting to compulsory redundancies". The Conservative budget also included increased funding for tackling anti-social behaviour and responding to out-of-hours noise complaints in the summer months. The Liberal Democrats voted against the low tax budget, instead putting forward an amendment which would have created a black hole leading to higher council tax for residents.
